Florida license renewal

Florida nursing CE renewal: what’s required, and when

Florida nurses renew every two years with 24 contact hours. Some of those hours have to be on specific topics, and a few topics only come around every second or third renewal. Here is the whole list, and the HIVE courses that cover it.

What Florida requires

For RNs and LPNs. The required topics count toward your 24 hours, except Domestic Violence, which is added on top in the renewals where it’s due.

APRNs with prescriptive authority also need 3 hours on safe and effective prescribing of controlled substances every renewal.

Human trafficking is 2 hours, every renewal

A lot of courses and employer handouts say one hour, one time. That rule (s. 456.0341, F.S.) is for other professions. Nursing’s comes from s. 464.013, F.S. and Rule 64B9-5.002, F.A.C.: two hours on human trafficking each biennium. Getting this wrong leaves you short at renewal.

The HIVE Florida courses
