Beyond the Bedside: Degrees, Roles and the Nonlinear Career

Beyond the Bedside: Degrees, Roles and the Nonlinear Career is a 1-contact-hour course from HIVE Nurse, built by nurses for nurses. Nurses pursue advanced degrees without a clear picture of what the degree permits, and employers compound it by hiring the credential into a role with no structure for using it. This activity distinguishes what each terminal degree prepares a nurse to do, maps six non-bedside roles that are still nursing, and names the organisational conditions - protected time, data access, a seat at the table - that decide whether a doctorate gets used or sits on a badge. Eight microlessons, completed in any order, including a case study of a DNP nobody used and an appraisal of qualitative evidence on why the degree goes invisible.
