What you will be able to do
- Identify the scope of the charge nurse's shift authority, the five rights of delegation and what may never be delegated, and what does and does not count as reporting a near miss.
- Describe a specific application to your own unit of the four assignment criteria, the order of priority for a shift that breaks, or a DESC script for a peer conversation.
- Report having made a specific change in your practice on a charge shift — building an assignment against stated criteria, running a structured start-of-shift routine, holding a structured peer conversation through to a commitment, using a written chain-of-command ladder, or checking in with a nurse after an event —.
