Human Trafficking
Human Trafficking is a 2-contact-hour course from HIVE Nurse, built by nurses for nurses. Florida requires two hours on human trafficking every renewal. This is those two hours, built on what the evidence actually supports: which indicators hold up and which are folklore, which screening tools have published validation and in whom, what to say in the room, and exactly which patients you are legally required to report.

What you will be able to do
- Identify the statutory definitions of human trafficking and coercion under s. 787.06(2), the types and documented extent of labor and sex trafficking, the factors that raise a person's risk, which general indicators have empirical support and which do not, the screening instruments with published validation and what your reported performance means at the bedside, and Florida's reporting duties for children, vulnerable adults and competent adults.
- Describe how you would conduct a private, trauma-informed conversation with a patient you suspect is being trafficked — separating the companion as routine policy rather than as a judgement about the patient, using a professional interpreter, asking behavioral rather than label questions, respecting the patient's own assessment of her risk, and documenting the encounter without creating a record that can later be used against her.; At 30 to 60 days following this activity, participants will report one specific change in practice: a screening conversation conducted in private, a referral made with the patient and with the patient's consent, a report made to the correct Florida channel for the patient in front of them, or a documentation habit changed.
