Teaching the Next Nurse: Preceptors and Productive Struggle

Teaching the Next Nurse: Preceptors and Productive Struggle is a 1-contact-hour course from HIVE Nurse, built by nurses for nurses. Preceptors are not taught where the line sits between a learner who is struggling productively and one who is drowning, so they step in early and the moment that would have built clinical judgment is spent. This activity gives preceptors and clinical faculty the conditions that must hold for a struggle to be productive, the signals that distinguish it from unsafe floundering, and a way to notice when their own fatigue is setting the threshold. Eight microlessons, completed in any order, with nurse educator interviews, a case decision point, and an appraisal of the frequently quoted claim that only 8% of new graduate RNs arrive ready to make entry-level clinical judgments.
